Tangless CoilThread Inserts

Tangless Threaded Inserts have all the characteristics of Tanged Threaded Inserts but in addition, they eliminate tang break-off and retrieval and are easily adjusted or removed after installation. Tangless Threaded Inserts reduce the time required for installation as removal of the tang is not required. Installation requires the use of a special tool designed for Tangless Threaded Inserts that features a head that grips and drives the Tangless insert into the hole. The bidirectional design of Tangless Threaded Inserts eliminates the need to orientate each part and saves time in applications that usually require counting of each removed Tang.

How do they install without Tangs?

Here's where Tangless CoilThread Inserts stand out from all other helically-coiled threaded inserts. Instead of a tang, these new inserts feature a unique, ramped driving notch on the inside diameter of the first coil on each end of the insert.

To drive the insert we developed an innovative installation tool with a patented, internal spring loaded pawl located at the tip of the tool's mandrel. During installation this hooked pawl locks into the insert Driving Notch and rotates the insert into the tapped hole, The pawl then retracts onto the mandrel to allow the tool to back out of the installed insert.

Free Running

Produced from precision profiled austentic stainless steel wire wound into a helical spiral, resulting in a spring like appearance. When installed, using any one of a variety of manual or automatic tools, they provide strong permanent internal threads which resist heat and corrosion.

Self Locking

Screw locking CoilThread inserts are of particular value in applications suject to the effects of cyclic vibration or impact. Self Locking is achieved by the action of one or more polygonal grip coils positioned within the insert's length, which exert radial pressure on the male thread. Each grip coil consists of a number of tangential locking chords which protrude inside the minor diameter of the normal free running coils. As the male thread passes through these grip coils, the locking flats are displaced thus exerting radial pressure or prevailing torque on he male thread.

Strip Feed

For even greater productivity during high volume production, KATO CoilThread screw head inserts can be supplied in reels of plastic tape known as Strip Feed Inserts. The inserts are held securely in the reels of plastic tape and neatly coiled into reels. Hence, the KATO CoilThread insert is positioned properly for installation each and every time, eliminating time spent on manual positioning of the inserts.
