Type 304 Stainless Steel (18-8) (AS7245) KATO Tanged & Tangless threaded Inserts are made of cold-rolled 304 stainless steel wire (AS7245), work-hardened to a tensile strength above 200,000 psi, and a hardness of Rc 43-50. The finished surface (8-16 micro-inches) is exceedingly smooth, virtually eliminating friction-induced thread erosion. The stainless steel used resists corrosion under normal environmental conditions. Galvanic action within the thread assembly is reduced, further adding to the life of the fastening assembly. KATO Coil Thread inserts are used with temperatures from -320°F to +800°F (-195°C to +426.7°C).
Special Non-Galling Stainless Steel KATO's latest development combines the benefits of a Tangless insert with special anti-galling material. The material is an anti-galling wear resistant austenitic stainless steel with materials like Nitronic 60 that provides galling prevention without the need for lubrication or plating. This fully austenitic alloy was originally designed as a temperature alloy, and subsequently has good high temperature properties for temperatures around 1800°F. The oxidation resistance is similar to type 309 S, and far superior to Type 304S.
Silver Plating Primarily used to reduce the effects of galling (seizure) of screw threads in high temperature service applications. Silver plating is the most commonly used coating for aero-engine fasteners providing an even degree of lubrication up to a maximum service temperature of about 650°C. Cadmium Plating Cadmium Plated CoilThread Inserts provide an excellent barrier between dissimilar metals dramatically reducing the effects of galvanic corrosion. Its high lubricity and excellent corrosion resistance prevents seizure and galling. Dry Film Lubricants Used for mildly corrosive or high temperature applications, dry film lubricants comprise of suspensions of small particles of solid lubricants such as molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) or PTFE. Can be formulated to suit most industrial applications to service temperatures around 315°C. Coloured Dye Inserts can be dyed in a variety of colours depending on the customers requirements. Dye is often used so the insert can clearly be seen in the hole.
